Khazimula Children’s Project had its beginnings when Joanne came across a group of homeless children. The program had a simple start to provide modest shelter for these children. With the help of a woman who ran a tearoom in the area the children would receive leftover food from the kitchen. As time passed, other involved citizens helped to transition these children into their current home, a converted schoolhouse. Thirty children, ages 6-18, from vulnerable home situations live at the house. They are cared for by a dedicated staff and group of volunteers.
