Year of the Warthog is the theme TIAS ARMS chose for this year’s celebration and fundraiser for our children in South Africa. Dedicated volunteers devoted many hours to creating artistic African masks to be sold at the event while hard working volunteer teams worked out the logistics of the fundraiser making for a smoothly run, fun time for all in attendance.
The festivities took place on Sunday, June 10, from noon to 5:00 p.m. at Park Prive (formerly the Mondavi Center), 1570 Scenic Ave., Costa Mesa.
There were astonishing Silent Auction and Auction items including a stay in a French country cottage, an African safari, a vacation in Big Sur, and original handmade art and masks.
One basket included signed first edition novels from well-known South African writers including Athol Fugard, Alexandra Fuller, Lisa Fugard, Ted Botha, Linzi Glass, and Wendy Kann. Attendees sipped a TIAS ARMS/Park Prive signature martini and feasted on a delicious meal. Later, the Kenyan band, Milelea (the name means “forever” in Swahilia) had everyone on their feet with their amazing music. Like TIAS ARMS they are committed to making a difference in Africa. Others learned to artistically tie headscarves with the help of talented, Sowetan-born, Bridgette Ramasodi. Bridgette is currently studying public health issues at college, and hopes to make a difference in the lives of families affected by HIV/AIDS.
A big thank you to all the amazing volunteers who made this event a huge success.
